| Kerala Hindu Society is a non-profit organization established in 1983 in the city of Houston. This is the mainstream organization representing the Hindu Diaspora from the state of Kerala. Our motto is Loka samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu |
Formation |
In the earlier part of 1970’s, a few Hindu families migrated to Houston,Texas.In 1979 July 22nd (Karkidakom 06, 1154) the nostalgic group of families under the leadership of Mr Madhavan K. Pillai got together and formed a prayer group to stick together, conduct prayers, observe the religious functions and to help each other. The following year eight more families joined and they named their group as Kerala Hindu Society. They also decided to meet one place once in a month and chant some prayers so the second generation can identify their heritage. |
Establishment |
In 1984 KHS became a registered non-profit organization. Since 1983 Kerala Hindu Society took the lead to conduct prayers, observe all Hindu celebrations conducting religious and Malayalam classes, seminars, discourses and what ever get all the Kerala Hindu families together. Since the formation of KHS many talented men who led the organization, contributed their invaluable efforts to make this organization to its present stage. |
Accomplishments |
Now KHS is working from its own premises at 10514 Cash Rd, Stafford, Texas 77477 and also owns 5 acres of land where the Guruvayurappan Temple construction has just started. The second phase of this project include a Community center to fulfill all religious and social needs of Hindus. |
